GMs and coaches lie like a fucking rug, it’s why I roll my eyes when people here take what Andy/Veach say at face value.

Berry was an albatross around this team's fucking neck. He was standing in the way of Mahomes achieving greatness for this team and the city of KC.

I smiled when I saw he had been released. It didn't have to be this way, and it's sad, but when you get down to it, the only person to blame in this situation is Berry himself.

Whatever, though. Berry got paid. I'm sure he doesn't give a shit what some fans online think of him. Therefore, I don't feel sorry for him. Not one bit.

Interesting nugget from Nate Taylor on The Athletic:

“For much of this offseason, the Chiefs didn’t want to release Berry.

The team was optimistic a few weeks ago when Berry traveled to Green Bay to get a second opinion from Dr. Bob Anderson on his right heel, the part of his body that forced him to miss 15 games last season. Anderson told Berry, a five-time Pro Bowler, that his heel could mend itself without a procedure. Berry wanted to return to the team to prove himself yet again, but the Chiefs ultimately decided that his inability to stay on the field — in playing just four games in the last two seasons — and his large contract were too much of a gamble.”

They were right IMO to release him, if the only treatment for Berry was to let it heal on its own. Not worth the risk of a repeat of this past season.

What's bad is we now have confirmation in the offseason from new medical evaluations that line up with what we heard many months ago, which is that this doesn't require surgery and it's a pain management issue.

If that has been the case all along, then why should any team trust him to actually play the game at this point? It's just going to be the same thing the Chiefs watched him do all season. "I don't feel good enough to play" even though the doctors say you're healthy enough.

I’m shocked to read that this foot specialist supposedly thought this thing would mend on its own. How? We haven’t ever heard of that even being a possibility until now.

Weird. But I think the Chiefs made the right call. They basically had to roll the same set of dice that they rolled last year had he stayed.

I have not read anywhere else he said "it would heal on its own". He said Eric Berry doesn't require surgery.

Those are actually two different things, as I tried to explain to LilChiefyBugger.

The old Chiefs would have blindly supported such nonsense in the name of player relations. I'm SO glad that shit is over.

At the time I was as excited to draft Berry as Id ever been for a draft pick. He more than lived up to my expectations.

His deal with cancer and mutiple season ending injuries was heartbreaking. Each time he came back and played amazing... Untill he couldnt anymore. It seems it was just one too many and the guy wasnt willing to shelve himself for another year after all his bad luck. He tried to play through it and that was a big mistake.

I will never forget the way he bounced back from cancer. He was an inspiration. Good luck to you Eric.

Despite all that, the most excited I've ever been for a draft pick is Patrick Mahomes. We need players who are available and earn their contracts to help him win us a superbowl. Cant carry a bunch of underperforming players with bloated contracts. Its a business and one dictated by superbowls. Next man up - lets go win one!

The condition or the bone spur wont ever heal itself, the discomfort and pain might.

I have a feeling the heal itself thing is if he doesn’t work out like a maniac, rests, and doesn’t play a professional sport it will be tolerable.. Training camp, practices, and games are not part of the healing process...

That's like pilots who don't fly not being as affected by the fear of flying... :-)

Its like a bulging disc. Some people can have them and learn through therapy, strengthening and lifestyle changes to mitigate the pain. Others cant. Then some people will have had them and never been bothered by it.
