Nzoner's Game Room>****2018-2019 Official NBA Regular season thread****
dirk digler 05:23 PM 10-16-2018
Didn't see anybody starting this thread so I guess I will.

Anti climatic season starts tonight and my prediction is GS vs Boston in the NBA Finals.

First 2 Games tonight on TNT with Philly vs Boston and OKC vs GS. Westbrook is out tonight so that game will be a blowout most likely.

How the fuck do the Warriors get guys like Cauley-Stein for slightly above the league minimum?

He and Looney should each have gotten $10+ million/year in this market. Cauley-Stein had over twice the win shares, 50% higher PER, more points, rebounds, a near equal assists to Terry Rozier, who got $19 million per.

This is just insane how they can find value in a market this asinine.

WCS is apparently chasing rings in his prime with a shell Warriors team. Insanity. He should not be signing that contract and I'd assume he disregarded his agent's advice to do it.

If you read King's fan description of WCS on r/nba they basically describe him as a worst version of Javale McGee.

Players like Steven Adams and Montrezl Harrell completely overpower him in the paint and it results in opposing teams getting massive rebounding advantages, as well as Willie being unable to defend them. Additionally, he often just makes bad decisions. Its just the same lack of focus that turns into bad turnovers in crunch time. I do think Willie can be good, and it really seems entirely up to him. It’ll be interesting to see if Draymond can change something in him.

TLDR: Pros: Very athletic, good size, fast Great rim runner Big lob threat Good passes

Cons: Is not a hustle player Doesn’t box out Poor screens Statistically worst rim protector in league Can’t shoot jumpers Can’t shoot free throws

That seems a little hyperbolic. A guy that bad at finishing and in the P&R wouldn't have that good of a shooting %. He's obviously a flawed player, but he's not a league minimum guy, either, unless he's a complete nightmare in the locker room

He's also right next to Beverly in defensive win shares.

Fix that. My god you're a professional athlete who's been in the league for a couple of years now, how can you still be that bad unless you're just not trying?

I think it was Bruce Bowen I was listening to that told me how to spot a bad teammate - watch them shoot a half-court shot at the at the buzzer. Bad teammates will ALWAYS let the shot go just after the buzzer sounds because they know they aren't gonna hit it and they don't want to dick up their shooting percentage. They don't want to look like they're jaking it to the fans, but the guys on the court know. It's a completely risk-free shot that actually goes in on occasion, but a selfish ballplayer doesn't care, he's gonna let that buzzer sound before he releases so his SH% doesn't suffer.

There's a lot of that streak in what Simmons is doing right now. The guy is so concerned with looking bad out there that he refuses to shoot the ball outside of the FT line. And that is hugely damaging to his team's offense.
Being a good shooter is mostly god given talent. You can get better at it but some people are just not gifted at doing it. You think Shaq or Udoka Azubuike could ever shoot threes even if they practiced 8 hrs a day? It isnt because he hasnt practiced, he just doesn't have the ability. If he was a 77% FT shooter it would make me wonder but hes a horrible FT shooter. Being a horrible FT shooter by this time of your career is indicative of just not having shooting talent.

Or Brook lopez when it comes to 3s.

And my thing is that Simmons doesn't even have to be a good 3 point shooter. He doesn't even need to be average. He just has to be good enough that guys don't completely sag off him when he's 15+ ft or further from the basket.

80% FT shooter when he came into the league. Should be expected that would eventually translate to 3FG.

According to CBS Sports, Kawhi warned the Clippers, Lakers, and Raptors that leaking anything from their meetings will likely hurt their chances of signing him. The article also said that a decision may be announced later today or tomorrow.
