In the meantime, this gem from Andy Reid's press conference today:

Andy Reid was asked if he did anything fun or exotic this offseason: “I attacked a couple Chile rellenos.”

Man, having genuinely premier athletes playing safety for us this year will be...different.

I really do think we can say that this defense has top 10 potential. I know everyone wants to harrumph over the CBs and LBs but I think some of those concerns (injuries notwithstanding) are a bit overblown and all of them could be answered in a resoundingly positive fashion. Breeland could easily go be there guy that got a $24 million offer from the Panthers. Fuller could go out there and play like the top slot CB in football he was 2 years ago. Ward could simply be average and we'd be in nice shape. Hitchens could get back to the form he displayed in a 4-3 in Dallas. Lee was among the best coverage LBs in football last year even in a disappointing season.

With just a handful of extremely reasonable 'upsides' being hit, this defense could actually be damn good.
Yeah, i'm waiting until I can see it in actual situations, but I think theres that potential there.

They think Thornhill is a real player in the middle. Like an Earl Thomas type guy. If that's the case and he gets to that rather quickly, paired with the other 2 at safety that's a hella group.

Then the stuff you've said here. I mean sure, maybe it's a little fanboy ish and some of it may not happen.

But we aren't exactly wishing for guys that haven't done things before to do them or guys who just aren't able to do them.

I think the 'iron sharpens iron' thing is overstated. It sounds great and makes sense in theory, but when you start to poke about, there's not a lot of real world support for it.

Otherwise the Patriots would get fisted in the playoffs after the annual cake-walk that is their division.
The difference is Thornhill actually has potential.

Ideal scenarios for the defense are always possible. Sometimes things just come together. Now, they all won't, but it's there if you look.

Say Frank Clark really is a defensive player of the year candidate, Honey Badger stays healthy and is what they envision and Jones builds on last year. Well, that's 3 pretty unreal dudes.

Then as DJ said, say Hitch gets back to being what he was in Dallas and the other dude form Dallas they brought in is a nice solid player. Then you throw in Lee and you've got a nice start in the front 7. If Nnadi progresses and Saunders shows anything your front 7 starts to get nasty.

I think CB could be an issue for sure, but there's ways to see it not be so.

We do that shit all the time.

It's fine.

Patrick Mahomes TD to Tyreek Hill in the back corner of the end zone. Hill high-pointed it over two defenders. Highlight reel kind of play.

I think one of the biggest differences for the LB group and possibly why the struggled was sutton's system was read and react. I don't think Spags defense is going to be like that so that may help the LB's a lot. Read and react works if you have super athletic players that can recover from the time spent assessing the situation to figure out what they need to do. I don't think we have those players at LB.

How did Mike Mayock see Jonathan Abram below average ball skills in college and think for one minute that he was better than Juan Thornhill?

Okay...let me ask a better question. How the hell did Mike Mayock decide to draft Jonathan Abram after interviewing that guy and hearing him talk like a complete retard?

It’s amazing that dumb teams like this let guys like Thornhill fall to us. The rich definitely got richer.

You would think their dumbasses would get ballhawks to try to compete against Mahomes every year but nope! Gotta get those run stuffing, hard hitting retards with no ball skills :-)

Ya know, I was going to say that's wishful thinking for all those things to happen.

But then, I realized that it's exactly what happened on Offense.
+ Kelce turned into the best TE in football
+ Pat was the MVP in year 1
+ Hunt was the best RB in football, and despite losing him didn't have a major drop off from the position in his absence last year
+ Hardman looks like a great fit
+ Pringle is coming along nicely
+ D-Rob hit and has been clutch in wild situations
+ Watkins is looking the best he has looked since entering the league
+ The O-Line developed nicely and Fisher isn't a scrub anymore

So, yeah, anything is possible.

Real answer?

Because Mike Mayock is old school, Abram is a big physical hitter that showed ability to lineup over the slot at times. He thinks he is getting a "tone setter".

When in reality today's NFL is far more about speed and ball skills on the back end than anything else. Some guys will never let that go even though the rules have basically made big hard hitting secondary players obsolete.

Well of course it wasn’t. Ron Parker, Leon McQuay, Josh Shaw, Jordan Lucas, Armani Watts, the ghost of Eric Berry who did not care.

You don’t think Juan Thornhill is a drastic upgrade over those guys?

After training camp, Tyreek Hill may wear #10 and #29. He's stolen Fuller's soul a few times now.
