yea youre going to need 3 or 4 good players to leave their markets and team up

or just let Lebron go to a new market and try again with a new assembled squad.

but an AD, John Wall, PG or Butler team might do it

A peak Dwight Howard kind of player as your 2nd best player might be enough.

In his prime, he was able to do so much to disrupt what teams were trying to do offensively. He had the athleticism to stay in front of all but the absolute quickest guys (and the length to still get even the fastest guys out of their spots and rhythm). He had the strength to stand up to anyone and clog the lane. He essentially allowed his teams to defend 6 on 5.

And if he had a truly elite scorer alongside him to make his squad more than just ugly buckets, that team would've been a force.

But he'd already started to decline by the time he got to LA and Kobe was no longer an elite scorer at that point (just a high volume chucker).

And really, the NBA just doesn't have anyone like him anymore. Perhaps a poor man's version of him like Serge Ibaka would be enough to put an already great team over the top, but I can't see Love for Ibaka being enough to do it and the Cavs don't have any way to get him in there alongside Love. Even if they did, he's just a slightly better version of Tristian Thompson. I'm not sure that will get it done given how badly GS just waxed Cleveland.

Well...yeah.

Part of the problem is that James, while still elite, isn't getting younger and that odometer is getting awfully high, awfully fast. Moreover, his style has always been one that punishes his body.

I'm not saying he's going to break down tomorrow or anything, but if you try to put him on a team like, say the Lakers, with guys that are 2-3 years away from being the best versions of themselves, by the time they get there, he won't be the same player he is today.

It's not just the 1000+ regular season games he's played but the 200+ post-season games he's played as well. And he's not playing 30 minutes/gm here; this is a guy that routinely plays 40+ minutes/gm.

When he's 34 with 1500 career games played, he can't possibly continue to do what he's doing.

I'm just not sure I see a path to beating the Warriors in the next two years that doesn't involve the Warriors getting dissatisfied with each other or injured. You're not beating them 'straight up'.

That won't do it.

Well, I mean I guess it depends on who the ???? is, but Melo is just an AWFUL fit with James. He's a ball-pounder who's defensively indifferent and athletically limited at this point. Deandre Jordan is just another Thompson.

Maybe if the ???? is Gordon Hayward?

Paul
Heyward
Lebron
George
Jordan

They can probably give 'em a good fight. You'd have so much length on that team that the lanes would be hard to find. You'd have enough shooting to make up for Jordan's offensive limitations and enough youth with Hayward and George that the squad shouldn't be too worn down.

What? No fucking way.

If you put DAJ on the Cavs they'll beat GS.

He's EXACTLY what they need.

I ****ing love it. Talk that shit Draymond. He knows he's the 4th best player on the team and he doesn't give a ****. He's the talker. That's part of his role.

Expound.

Barkley had one of the best quotes I've ever seen on a player w/r/t to Jordan. "If you left Jordan in a gym all night and told him he couldn't dunk, he'd have 6 points in the morning...."

Jordan's a garbage man. Thompson's an excellent rebounder and a solid shot blocker. Jordan grabs more boards but only because his teammates are fairly indifferent towards the idea (see Westbrooks rebound numbers for a good example).

Jordan's the same kind of player as Thompson except probably just a little bit better. He's not more dynamic offensively and while he's a little better as a defensive presence in the middle, it's not that big a difference.

I don't think the Cavs end up any better than the 4-1 they just suffered even with Jordan instead of Thompson.

Cavs need another player who can help defend Klay and KD to conserve energy for LeBron. A big man isn't going to do much against Golden State. Jimmy Butler would be a perfect fit for them, even more so than Paul George IMO.
