This trial was run by U.S.’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases not Gilead. I did read China tried to steal the patent of Remdesivir

Nobody is saying you can't go outside, I spent all weekend outside, also mushrooms are a source of vitamin D if exposed to UV light.

Many states won't let you on a boat on a lake by yourself and their parks and walking trails are closed...

Thats awesome.

Hamas i think said it a while back, but similar to Tamiflu, it's all about the timing in antivirals.

Seems a bit extreme to me, one advantage of living up north I guess finding outside space is pretty easy.

So the company that makes the drug that is trying to prop up its stock price says it works. imagine that.

"A second SIMPLE trial is evaluating the safety and efficacy of 5-day and 10-day dosing durations of remdesivir administered intravenously in patients with moderate manifestations of COVID-19, compared with standard of care. The results from the first 600 patients of this study are expected at the end of May."

That will be where the rubber really meets the road. Without a comparison to standard of care it's difficult to ascertain how much improvement was due to the drug vs. the normal course of the illness. Hopefully that sample size is large enough to meet power.

With that said, if you look pooled data from what we do have, that would be a relative risk reduction of hospitalization at Day 14 of 25%, an absolute risk reduction of 13%, and a number needed to treat of 7.7.

Translation: For every 8 people that they treat with Remdesivir, one will get out of the hospital by day 14 that wouldn't have before.

I think this one will end up being better used for mild cases to prevent from getting to that point. The antibody treatment would seem to be better suited for severe casess.

NJ for one, although they have since walked back the boating ban (still can't rent a boat, has to be one you own)

Michigan for one, probably the strictest. I don't think beaches are open in Southern Florida, NJ and other places. Washington State had closed their hiking trails.

Well, the good news is that while the death rate in NY hit close to projections, the number of hospitalizations have been way below.
