Apparently, that's also one of the reasons why the resource use model was so far off- they based resource use for future patients on patients in the initial surge.
That is where Italy made their biggest mistake, they hospitalized many COVID patients that could have recovered at home.

To be candid, almost every drug works this way: giving it earlier in the course will lead to better outcomes than later (but that doesn't mean early treatment is beneficial) . It might be Gilead doing CYA- we don't have the data to know.

So a simpletons summary might suggest that this thing is already much more widespread than we previously thought possible?

Which I think we've discussed, but is both good and bad.

Good - the number of serious cases is lower than anticipated.
Bad - there's a higher chance that there's people out there spreading it

in short these Viruses can wreak havoc on your body making anything possible, depending on your risk factors/health. The only thing we know at this point is it doesn't give orgasms.

By the time you get to the point where you're seeing this many cases, it's exploded way farther than you ever knew.

At this point, it's everywhere.

It's why I'm watching Sweden closely. My only real hope that this thing might end early is that we might reach herd immunity faster than expected. I'm certainly not counting on it, but otherwise we have little hope but being in it until a vaccine is widely available.
