The Chiefs scored on 2 of their first 3 drives today. The one stop was the Keizer fumble.

On their 4th possession the Chiefs went 3-and-out.

Incomplete, incomplete, sack.

On their first possession of the 2nd half:

Sack, incomplete, short pass.

When the Chiefs don't run the ball at all, they're playing right into the defense' hands.

Running the ball like they have is great. It’s not as efficient as throwing it in terms of scoring points. Look at the last two weeks. When they don’t throw it successfully, they struggle to score.

There's a reason they're not throwing it successfully.

Do you honestly think that just increasing the number of passes is the solution to the problem?

Only an idiot bangs their head against a wall and expects a breakthrough.

They’re doing what they have to do right now and winning easily still, but their best bet to Win in the playoffs and such is for Mahomes to throw the ball.
I can see how you might be right about more passing being statistically the better choice. The defenses adjusted in 2020, however. I don't think we can look at Mahomes' previous years stats and apply them to this year.

Opponents are willing to die by the run which has been UNTHINKANBLE until Mahomes started cooking defenses in literally one-quarter spans.

He is that transcendent.

Like I said earlier, if they’re doing it from a necessity situation then yeah it’s what they’ve gotta do.

But they need to get whatever they need to fixed so they can throw the ball more successfully.

It’s typical current day slavery to certain theories based on “win percentages” or whatever garbage justification there is to NEVER run the ball. Apparently running the ball is just taboo to some people *cough PFF cough*

You can’t split run pass like 80/20 like these people want to. It isn’t realistic. It doesn’t matter if passing is more “efficient” in a nice little chart, the element of keeping a defense off balance is crucial.

And it’s not like we have a shit run game. We can run the ball effectively, and should take the opportunity when it’s presented.

They're playing with 2 starters on the offensive line right now and defenses are selling out to stop the deep pass.

I'm not sure why this is even a discussion - OF COURSE they're doing it out of necessity.

People asking for more passing this year is akin to asking for more runs into 9-man boxes because it worked the last two years when the defenses had 7 in the box.

If teams can “force” them out of that it makes them do things on offense that aren’t as efficient.

The chiefs offense is supposed to be elite. Elite offenses don’t piss and sputter like the chiefs have some this year. It’s a weird year and we know the chiefs can do it so there’s reasons it’s not happening.

But remember those 2013 bronco offenses or the pats of 08? Teams couldn’t stop them and they just forced their will on teams
If you can talk the defense into running cover 0, I'd be fine with taking deep shots all day. If the defense is dropping 8 and taking away the deep zones, you're going to need to run or throw some stuff short. I honestly don't GAF is some idiot feels like it somehow challenges his manhood.

If you punish them with enough of the short stuff, they will, at some point, creep up. Then you can have your deeper shots.

FFS, win the game in blowout fashion and it's, somehow, still not enough.

For sure

But don’t you guys think teams did these same things to some of those manning colt teams? Or brady?

At some point the chiefs are gonna have to get figured out and get back to what sets them apart from the rest of the league.

The chiefs are way more talented than just about any team in the league. They want and should try to optimize getting as many possessions per game as they can. The fewer, the more randomness can come into play and a lesser team can beat them

Notice how you reference the 2013 Broncos and 2008 Pats though, and not the 2008 to 2012 Pats or 2013 to 2015 Broncos. Those offenses were historically great for a season and then were just really good or in the case of the 2015 Broncos, the offense fell off a cliff and the defense was their strength. The Chiefs offense has been unstoppable or nearly so for 2 years and now things aren’t quite so flashy. It’s more gritty now. Maybe we will have a down year compared to our expectations for complete and utter dominance? I’d also point out that neither of the teams you mentioned won the SB. I’ll take gritty team wins and Super Bowls over offensive records. There’s no QB or team I’d take over KC if you have to win a game on the last drive.

It seems that more and more teams are willing to just say "fuck it, let them gash us on the ground. At least we won't get 4 TDs dropped on us in the 2nd quarter." I mean McDermott outright said that. It keeps the games closer.
