He really took a massive step forward this year into being the guy they thought he would be. But maybe some of that was Smith taking a lot off his plate.

And with Smith under contract, they probably decided they just couldn't afford him even at a fairly reasonable number for a top-shelf coverage LB who can really play all 3 downs.
