not sure if same instance...but I saw a video yesterday that fits this description. kinda small assembly hall....he's playing and you hear someone in the background....who apparently just walked in...say all loud...HOLY SHIT!
Prince smiles and looks over at the dude....lots of laughter. pretty cool

EDIT - here it is. HOLY SHIT at :58

WOH!
man I HOPE that's true.
I have always been a huge Prince fan...but....I always seem to gravitate to the songs on an album that weren't necessarily big hits.
like on Sign O The Times....some of my fav songs on that are Housequake, Starfish And Coffee and one of my fav Prince songs ever....The Cross.

so...if there's a shit ton of other stuff of his....come on man....his worst song is gonna be better than most crap you hear on the radio!

Now the big question. When or will they ever release all the music in his vault?

The guy put out 39 albums, and his closest friends and the musicians he worked with over the years have said that all the music he has released is probably not even 5% of what he's recorded.

One of his closest collaborators in the studio has said he can think of 30 or 40 songs just off the top of his head that are as amazing as his biggest hits and best songs he's released.

Back in the 80's, he was recording over 100 songs for each album before selecting the handful that made it onto the album. At some point he decided to lay down at least one new track a day.

His early manager started the vault because he was recording at such a prolific pace, recordings were strewn all over the place- 2 master tapes in his glove compartment, one tucked above the sun visor, a box of them behind the bar by the pool, etc. She estimates Prince could release a new album every year through the 22nd century and still have material left unreleased.

He’s one of the few artists I know has a treasure trove of amazing shit and not just throw aways.

He dabbled in so many genres.

You realize that when his song Kiss was #1 on the charts, the #2 song was Manic Monday- a song he wrote secretly and the lyric credits were just attributed to "Christopher".

He wrote and gave away tons of hits to other artists. Nothing Compares to You- he wrote it, and the list goes on and on.

Well to clarify, he didn't "Give Away" the songs, he allowed other artists to record them.

He always kept the copyright and ownership.

Every time I hear 1999, Raspberry Beret, Little Red Corvette or Let's Go Crazy, it makes me think of a ski trip I went on long ago. A bunch of my friends, there were 12 of us in total, left one New Years Eve about 2 o'clock in the morning in a big ol' passenger van. Two of the guys stayed sober so they could take turns driving. The rest of us were jamming to Prince and Bon Jovi's Slippery When Wet. It was one of the best times of my life.

RIP

Well, didn't he release like 7 albums in two years to get out of a contract with WB or something a couple decades ago? Nobody bought any of that shit.

That was probably just a stack of tapes that he accidentally left under his sink or something.

The new albums can come out under the name "The artist formerly known as Prince."

This is actually the most subtle way Prince has gotten out of a record deal.
