What are the redeeming qualities that make Orville good TV? Never watched it but I've went to shows like It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia because people swore by it and I;m glad I did.

It’s basically Star Trek Next Generation Lite with humor.
And it’s far better than what’s currently passing as actual Star Trek. [Reply]

First episode or two the humor was a little forced. After that, MacFarlane started making the Trek-style show he’d always wanted. Still has humor and human interactions, also pushes some Trek style storylines (gender choice, Internet voting and superficiality, science of a 2D universe, et cetera). [Reply]
The season opener sucked. Hard. Mercer stalking Kelly, the doctor's brat getting mixed up with a bad kid, Bortus having to go home to pee. WTF? Worst episode of the show so far. Can't believe they used it as a season opener; if that had been the first episode I ever watched, I would not watch again.
I thought it was great. Only part I didn't like was alara (is that her name?) getting set up with the alien. It's nice having an episode of entirely dialogue. To each their own. [Reply]

yeah, not a good season opener. Felt like a stupid filler episode but why would you open with a filler episode? Oh well, hopefully thats the only stinker. [Reply]
