Fox did his best during the team’s offseason practices this summer, even though the specialists usually do their work on a separate field from the rest of the team. Fox explained to Dave Toub, the Chiefs’ special-teams guru, that Saunders could be a surprise option on a fake punt or fake field goal. Fox also shared stories of Saunders’ legendary exploits in high school — the moments when he stiff-armed a defender, hurdled another defender and then ran over another defender in the same play — with kicker Harrison Butker, long-snapper James Winchester and punter Dustin Colquitt.
A few times during the practices, Fox turned his head toward the Chiefs’ defense to see what Saunders was doing.
“He was so fun to watch,” Fox said. “I wish I could see him play running back again, honestly.”
3rd round FCS player needs a redshirt year. Not too surprising.
At least we spent a 3rd rounder on him instead of a 2nd like we usually do. Small school workout warriors who take time to develop in the pros shouldn't be drafted in the 2nd round.
It's nice that Kpassagnon is finally contributing in some way to the team now, but it took too damn long. If Saunders takes that long to become a part of the rotation that we rely on, it's less of a big deal.

Would've been nice to draft a CB or LB instead of a project DT.
I suspected as much, but can’t always tell watching in a bar. Hopefully Claiborne solves the CB issue, but, yeah, it would be nice to have another contributor on defense right now. [Reply]

Nnadi at least seems to get the job done more often than not. Again, when your defense is as consistently shitty as ours, it can occasionally be tough to figure out where the good players actually are, if there are any.
But at least he's a starter who has made at least a handful of nice plays in his career. More than you can say for the Veach DL guys who rarely see the field. [Reply]
Is there any hope this fucker can contribute at any point this season? Our defensive tackles fucking suck for the most part after Chris Jones, so it's not like there's much blocking him.
Kpass (on Dorsey's watch), Speaks, Nnadi, and now Saunders. Nnadi is the only major contributor so far, and he's still pretty meh. If these were all 4th or 5th round picks it would be understandable that they're raw and not ready to contribute. But year after year we keep taking these guys in the 2nd and 3rd round and getting almost nothing out of it. If Saunders can't get on the game day roster within another 2-3 weeks they might as well find a way to IR him instead of wasting a roster spot on another DL bust. [Reply]
