The "attitude" of this team, including Bob Sutton's for that matter, comes straight from Andy Reid.
And ultimately that's the problem.
Justin Houston has never been...for lack of a better word...nuts.
And shit, I guess Vander Esch isn't either but he plays with an edge. Keuchly does as well. I don't want Burfict out there, but I'd like someone with {sigh} Hunt's mentality.
That mic'd up that had him walking around talking about how lucky he is to get to play this game and how he wanted the ball back so he could go hit some more people....that's an attitude I think we lack on defense.
I want someone who's not just looking to go get the job done - I want at a guy or two out there who's just a little kid in a candy store out there. He wants to find someone and drive through him. I think Ragland has that to him but he's just so goddamn slow. I sure thought Hitchens did but that guy has just mind-fucked himself (it's happened to better players with big contracts before).
The attitude may be coming from Andy but it shouldn't be. It should be coming from the guys on the field. [Reply]

Eric Berry has shown that edge in the past. Even being a mediator for Peters (Peters really started blowing up when Berry was on IR).
If we could have 90% EB in production and attitude, that could give our D a huge boost in the playoffs. [Reply]

Pretty much.
They need a dog on defense. Somewhere. Just a dude that's a little nuts and everyone kind of wonders about him.
They've got an all pro safety that played once that was pretty intense but well, I dunno that we are gonna go there here. [Reply]

Jones doesn't have it either.
Jones is a little like Ford; he's a guy who has fun and goes out there fired up to make plays. But he's not just a guy who's excited on a play to blast the lineman in front of him and make a hole for a teammate.
We had a 15 yard(ish) run against us in the 2nd, IIRC where Jones had disengaged and then just didn't sell out to stop the ballcarrier; guy scraped right past him when if he were playing physical football, he had it stopped for a 2 yard gain. Jones is as big a part of the problem as anyone out there, IMO.
We don't need 11 guys chewing glass before kickoff but damn I wish we had at least 1 or 2. [Reply]

Yup. It was a 'Jones' game; the game that makes you wonder if it's really a good idea to make him one of the 3 highest paid DLs in football.
He coasted in that game. The guy I'm looking for just doesn't have a day like that against a divisional opponent. He may have some games where he just gets beat, but it won't be because he simply never engaged. [Reply]

Jones has the flash plays but it reminds me a little of Kolton Wong being a home run hitter.
Yeah, that's great. But I don't need to trying to hit 40 home runs. Same with Jones. I don't need you to lead the league in sacks. Play disciplined football. [Reply]

We're going to pay him. I have no doubt about that. What's going to suck is when we watch games like that one....and we're left wondering why the fuck we decided to pay him all of that money. [Reply]
Chiefs defenders over time who were nuts:
EJ Holub
Caesar Belser
Sherrill Headrick
Fred Williamson
Dino Hackett
Benny Thompson
Dan Saleamua
Mike Maslowski
Sean Smith
Dale Carter
Carlton Gray
Mark McMillen
Jared Allen
Jevon Belcher
Marcus Peters [Reply]

Hey, at least he'll be on the field. That's more than we can say about other recent big-time defensive contracts!
Problem is, I don't know that it will change any. They felt so deflated yesterday that it wouldn't surprise me if they finished 1-3, got the 5 seed and lost in that first round.
I hate that it is that way, but this just seems like a season killing kind of thing. [Reply]
