only 3 players in the history of the NBA have a FT % over 90 for their careers - Nash, Price and Curry.

So yes, while the Jayhawks seem to be a shitty FT team which is a recipe for disaster in March - maybe don't expect them to hit 9 out of every 10

dude - NBA teams don't shoot 85% from the stripe

85% is ridiculously good

Michael Jordan was a career .835 free throw shooter

maybe try not over-exaggerating?

Hell, I think at 1 point the Jayhawks were 28-36 from the line against WVU and Frank Mason himself was like 16-18. Seems like FT shooting has been a HUGE problem for KU this year but I think it pretty much won them the game against WVU based off reading the box score.

(seems like another CP thing where everyone is a 90% free throw shooter and it's so easy to shoot free throws on national TV in front of 20,000 people with the game on the line in 1 and 1 situations!)

only 2 teams in Division 1 shoot over 80% as a team

Harvard shoots 75% and they are a bunch of Como level geniuses

...guess it's not as easy as just 'practice more!'

Why is it so hard to believe that I shot 85% as a high school senior. I'm not saying my team shot that. Also, Michael Jordan shot probably 100 times the amount of free throws I did over his career. You guys are missing the point completely, some of their free throws aren't even close. It's all about muscle memory and concentration.

I'm not saying he's not over-exaggerating, but it's not out of the question. I can relate, as I shot 80% my Junior year. Of course i only shot 10 FT's that year. :-)

I don't know what you're talking about.

I clocked myself at 4.37 yesterday, never missed a freebie in high school, and am at 6'4 with shoes on.

Of course, I didn't run a 40 yesterday, never played basketball in high school, and would be at 6'4 if I borrowed my gf's 6 inch heels.

sorry that some of us were actually decent high school athletes. I'm 6'2" without shoes on.

It was just a joke, bro. I was going for the whole self-depreciating thing there.

Yeah, I wish KU would figure out how to shoot better FTs. Still, it's ridiculous to say I shot ____ % in high school and compare it to Division 1 basketball in front of 16k and many more thousands or millions on television. I also think that having a short bench affects the FT shooting.

It's not hard to believe that you and Como shot 85% and 90% from the Free Throw line ...

what I compared you two studs with were actual pro players (1 being the best of all-time) and actual all-time statistics (only 3 over 90% for a career and they were all less than 91%) ... and actual team statistics

and then showed only 2 teams are even over 80% with none being over 82% an the entire division 1 ...

with Harvard in the top 15 at 75%

...but yeah, just muscle memory and repetition!

Do I think KU is a poor free throw shooting team? Yes. Is yelling, "muscle memory and repetition!!!!" a reasonable way to think the problem should be fixed?

I mean, good God. They can't shoot free throws. I'm pretty sure Bill Self, a hall of famer, is smart enough to think of 'hey, maybe we should just practice free throws more!' if that was a reasonable idea for fixing their inability to make important free throws.

Very true. Fatigue plays a massive part into free throw shooting. Which is why, in high school, we used to run wind sprints and then have to shoot a free throw (with a miss equaling more sprints) at the end of practices.

...I'm sure Bill Self isn't smart enough to realize to practice free throws, though. Must have slipped his mind this year.

So glad to have Hootie back. He's one of a few here with every one of his posts turns each discussion into a cesspool of animosity.

my bad, KU should shoot 90% from the FT line. Carry on.
