I just picked up a new monitor (34" Ultra Wide 1440p 144MHz 1500R Curve Samsung Panel -VA) to replace my 3 monitor setup (24" ASUS 1080p). Now I need a new video card to drive the monitor.
This card is going to struggle to push anything more than low to medium graphics on games with this new monitor. Where I'm torn is the cost of new video cards.
If I'm looking hard enough, I can stumble across an open box 5600 for $200 or $230 new. A 5700 for $320 (open box) or $350 new. But at that point... why would I just not drop another $100 for the 6700 at $449?
Ultimately... that makes the 5700 a non player and I'm left choosing between a 5600 at $230 or a 6700 at $450. I'd rather not spend an extra $220 but I feel like the 6700 would probably be the last video card my current build sees.
Then what about the 20x series by nVidia? By paying a touch more I get Ray Tracing which is cool but I'm not paying for a 2080, for what I would pay for a 2070 I may as well snag one of the new AMD cards. A 2060 is going for $320 new... I don't know that Ray Tracing is worth nearly $100.
Better yet... do any of you fellow nerds have an itch to update and want to sell me their 5k/20x series cards? [Reply]
I've just been jumping into these fucking Newegg raffles every goddamn day for like 4 months straight, and every motherfucking time "Fish, you weren't selected. We wish we had more inventory..." blah blah fuck you guys. This is despite the fact that Newegg has been cashing in on the shortage by only offering combo selections..
Congrats on your stupid awesome purchase of a really nice version of the 3070... bitch.
I've been working up in Chicago since the beginning of the year and they have two MicroCenters there. I've been checking their CPU and GPU stock almost daily.
In the last three weeks there has been an uptick in AMD GPUs coming in. Mostly 6700 and 6900xt. Holy cow the prices though. The 6900's are priced between $2000 and $2500.
I'm not in the GPU market currently, I'm looking to upgrade my travel pc from FM2+. Waiting for a nice open box CPU to pair with a 2080ti. I don't really need to upgrade, my A10 Kavari and 2080ti kills everything I throw at it. Probably the most demanding things I do are Anno 1800 and Madden at 1080 on hotel TV's. I just love bargain shopping. I'll probably end up getting a 10400f. [Reply]
Right before the pandemic started I bought an open box 5700xt for $300 and an open box EVGA black 2080ti for $800.
Then when I was home visiting my Mom for Christmas, on a whim, we drove to MicroCenter in Overland Park on Christmas Eve. I was about 12th in line when they opened. Everyone in front of me was buying 3070's and when I got to the counter the only thing they had left was a Asus ROG Strix AIO water cooled 6800xt for $900. I bought it with a big smile on my face. Definitely not a top of the line card but middle of the road you can get a RTX 2060 for $390 on Woot.com. I haven't been keeping an eye on prices as of late but that seemed pretty good for last time I looked and I know the step up to the 2070 is about 3 times that cost currently. [Reply]

My bad... I was thinking RTX 3060... not the 2060. [Reply]
