Sure doesnt seem like it, though... these old songs dredge up the same emotions as if they were yesterday
That's the thing about his music for many (most?) of us --- they were iconic songs that provide a very distinct memory of a time in our lives. Purple Rain absolutely takes me back to a middle school dance. They were a prominent backdrop to our formative years. His hits in the 80's and 90's came before Spotify, YouTube, and all the other online music options. Radio, cassette and CD's were it, and his songs were always on the radio. [Reply]

I can't fucking believe this. The only instrument Prince wasn't a complete master at was the drums. Everything else, he was a fucking PHD.
The music he wrote with Wendy and Lisa was some of the most original and prolific pop-rock that has ever been recorded.
When he moved away from the group mentality and became more of a solo artist, I thought his music was a little too self-indulgent, but he was still a master at crafting songs and he definitely wrote some gems along the way.
he was an hell of a guitarist too. I never knew it really, until I saw some performance of his a few years ago where he shredded on guitar. I never really listened to him so I had no idea. [Reply]
