And that's the beauty of Mondesi. He's not a one-trick player. He can hurt you in quite a few ways. If he's struggling with power, he can small ball...turn doubles into triples, etc. If anything, he's only extending the case for his worth this year. Still gets into funks where he swings at bad pitches...but overall a much better approach compared to last year. [Reply]

The triples & XBH are nice (mostly a product of his speed though) but I think most of us, including Mondesi himself, would have expected him to have twice as many HRs by now. He still has more raw power than hes showing. [Reply]

His average exit velocity is up slightly and his barrel percentage is solid.
He’s hitting the ball just as hard, just isn’t seeing as many of them travel over the fence. If you compare his batter ball charts, he had a lot more get out in 2018 that traveled shorter distances.
His launch angle has flattened slightly but I would suspect some of it is that he plays in a cavernous Park and summer is just starting.
Would guess his rate spikes a bit in the second half and he ends up with 20+ bombs by the end of the year. [Reply]
Some news: Today is my last day on the Royals for The Athletic and my first day as a features writer for @TheAthleticNYC.
Thank you so much to anyone who read. I probably haven't written my last story about the Royals or KC. But here's to new things: https://t.co/WvtjHqaLN8
