Matheny was upfront about the first two when hired by the Royals and said he’d learned from his mistakes. After his first week in 2020 I pretty much was won over and believed him about the first two. Jury’s still out on the discipline piece, but I see no reason to think he’s not at Yost’s level or better.
538 methodology claims the guy Matheny replaced was the 6th worst bullpen manager since 2000:

Yeah generally if the Royals are going to suck, it’s really obvious by the end of April. [Reply]
Such a fascinating Royals stat: KC has won 57 consecutive games when leading after the seventh inning, which is the longest active streak in the Majors, according to Elias. (Per Royals PR.)

What baffles me is all the experts still knocking us in the division. All the power rankings talk about our bad metrics, but the other teams get a pass. This team hasn't put it together yet and still beating the teams they should. [Reply]

I will bet you whatever amt of money you want the Royals will not win the Central. [Reply]

Yeah after 12% of the season. That would be two games in an NFL season.
I love our pen. Our hitting has been disappointing. Im not sure about Dozier long term. I wasn't sold on Mondesi because of health issues and he already got hurt again. Whit is aging himself out of playing good defense. Soler is alot of fun but he feasts on medicre pitching in blow out games. Santana is a stud. Going to come down to how Dozier, Mondesi, Benintendi progress. [Reply]
