Nzoner's Game Room>Tamba drops a deuce on Alex Smith
T-post Tom 04:27 PM 05-11-2024

Tamba Hali recently admitted that, at times when Patrick Mahomes was on the bench behind Alex Smith in 2017, Chiefs players wanted Mahomes to play. https://t.co/U9kNvalVfY

I'll throw Florio a bone on this one... or maybe an anvil?

That could start with the selection of Todd Blackledge.
Grbac was the zenith of KC's hatred-inducing QBs.

Cassel's KC teams and coaches were so bad that he was never going to win with them. He was just a putz who fell into an undeserved $60 million contract.

Grbac had all the physical tools, but he was a mentally challenged pussy who talked shit about KC after leaving.

that's my point. and that's not what you said a minute ago. you said it was specifically alex Smith that the fans had a problem with.

that's what I don't agree with

it's not just Alex Smith. it was the long line of re-r
treads and free agents and pickups...and never once swinging the bat on a draft pick.

Aex Smith just had the misfortune of being that last guy in the very long list since 1983

Well of course guys on the football team will talk about something like that. You know we all work at companies and people talk shit and gossip, wonder 'what if....' it's just how it is. Chiefs seemed to have hit a plateau with Alex Smith and Mahomes is a freak so I understand. No big deal.

That said everything worked out pretty well. Mahomes has always been grateful for Alex Smith's mentorship, even his Dad commented on it. So I don't think Reid's decision to start Smitty over Mahomes his rookie year is that big of a deal.

Patrick Mahomes says Alex Smith taught him to teach others

The Kansas City Chiefs find themselves in a position that few expected them to reach.

Just a month ago, the team stood at 9-6 after losing five of the previous eight games. Most of those losses had come because of the team’s own mistakes — including those of quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

But according to head coach Andy Reid, Mahomes also played a key role in getting the team where it is now: preparing to face the Baltimore Ravens for the AFC Championship on Sunday afternoon.

“Listen, Pat’s a perfectionist,” Reid told reporters before Wednesday’s practice. “He’s as competitive as any of us right here — I mean, more so. He just wants it right around him. But he’s willing to teach; that’s the unique part. So he’s willing to share what he sees with the guys... and help the guys get in a position. As long as they’re willing to work, he’s all-in.”

According to Mahomes, that all leads back to the man who taught him how to play in the NFL.

“I think it just comes from the guys before me,“ he said on Wednesday. “I mean, Alex Smith is the prime example. He was playing great football at [a] top level — and he was teaching me at the same time.

“It’s about just trying to make everybody better. We want to win every single week. That’s just how it is in the NFL. But you’re not going to, so all you can do is get better each and every week — win or [lose]."

Ok Patrick now its very important when you get to 3rd and 15 to not take any chances. Make sure you get the stats and protect yourself. Scamper for 12 yards. Its a free 12 yards so why not take it? Also on 3rd and 15 the check down is always open. Great way to build you QB rating and comp pct.

False, thus no rings. Mahomes was better than Smith before he left Texas Tech.

Actually....if you read my earlier posts I did mention others. I am old enough that I experienced sitting behind a girder seat in old Municipal Stadium.

My post pointing out only Smith in the post I believe you are referring to is because people are focused on Smith more than any of the other wasted QB'S we have experienced.

And for the record....I think it was crappy of Tamba to drop this as kind of a cheap shot.

Mahomes coming out of college was better than a lot of NFL starting QB'S in the NFL at the time.

That's Mahomes. Always saying the "correct" thing, never ruffling any feathers or creating controversy of any sort. I love that he's our QB, but most of his interviews are painfully boring to watch.

I didn’t mind a redshirt year for Mahomes, but I do wonder if he could have given the team a spark in the 2nd half of that Playoff game against Tennessee. Kelce was gone with concussion. The offense was stuck in neutral.

You people disrespecting everything Alex Smith brought make me sick. They don't just grow quarterbacks on trees who can average 3,500 yards, 20 TDs, and 7 INTs like Smith did in KC.

Sorry....Mahomes wasn't better than Brady at the time. But it didn't take him long to catch up to Brady.

Mahomes is anything but boring on the field. He's the most entertaining QB I've ever seen by far.
