Nzoner's Game Room>Pellet Grills
Buehler445 10:13 AM 05-08-2019
My old LP grill is to the point where it needs parts or needs to go. The wife is thinking a pellet grill might be better for her to use.

I thought there was a thread on here about them, but the one I could dig up is over a decade old.

What are you guys running these days? Pros/Cons?

I don't know much about anything except Traegers and people I know have had trouble with them.

I'd PROBABLY be leaving it outside so I'd need a cover for it.

Dont throw away the old charcoal grill though......sometimes you just need to go back to old school grilling from time to time
Oh, I never throw a grill/smoker away. I've got quite a few, and I love Malcom Reed's videos, he's on point... His pork belly burnt end offering is simply AMAZING!

Bump

We are looking at a smoker. We dont need something large, it is just the two of us, once in a while 4.

I would like a wood pellet smoker.
Looking at this
https://www.amazon.com/PIT-BOSS-1069...04&sr=8-5&th=1

price is good. Anything else I should be looking at? Thank you.

I’ll take the traditional wood smoker over the pellet grill. Old school power vs technology and twitch.

Pellet grill smokes decent, but you need one with a smoke stack otherwise it won't do much good.

I’ve had both. The stick burner was probably better, but the Yoder is much better for my lifestyle and consistency. Just glad we have options.

Sorry my minds in fight mode today. You crash the two together and I’m thinking old school all day.

They are all good. Try them out and see what you like best. Honestly if you’re not a pro cooker the blends are the easiest and best. If you want lots of smoke run it at 200. Do not pour pellet dust in the box or your gonna have to do a complete clean out. A good rub and 200 degrees will make you look like a pro.

What do you mean a smoke stack? Is that an accessory? I usually use a smoke tube topped off with hardwood chips that’ll add extra smoke during that first hour or so.

I kept seeing a commercial for a GE Profile indoor smoker so I went and looked it up. Only $999. WTF?

You’re right. It’s going to always be a better end product if you know what you are doing and you don’t miss your temps. I’m inherently lazy so I like throwing a brisket on before I go to bed, not worry about getting up to add wood to the fire, and having a product that 90% as good as what it is on the sticks burner IF I did everything right. It’s also cool to throw a pork butt on the Yoder in the morning, go floating and it’s ready when you get home.

My Yoder YS640 is awesome, and idiot proof :-). It’s super consistent with the smoke and temp. I love it.

You might want to consider adding one of these too, they are amazing for adding smoke.

I’ve used the smoking tube to cold smoke cheese. Works great.

Yep! And the add on pizza oven is one hell of a versatile tool.
