Little surprising. Figured you could probably at least find a struggling SP in AAA with a live arm who'd present a strong bullpen conversion project.
Those sorts of guys typically aren't on any organization's top 20 prospect list. Handle them well and you get an Emmanuel Clase sort of player for your efforts. Holland isn't going to get the sort of contract that yields a draft pick so your opportunity cost is a few innings off young arms (that you'd probably like to see throwing anyway) in a shortened season.
Maybe he just ran out of time or there's no industry buy-in on Holland.
Lord knows I wouldn't take the guy if he were on waivers...but that's just 'cause I hate his fat ass for being a fat ass. I've never seen a pitcher show up more out of shape and completely ambivalent about it than Holland in 2018. Guys first outing he was out there sweating and panting after a few pitches. Dude clearly thought he was going to get paid that off-season and had pre-emptively mailed it in. [Reply]

Never really saw much trade buzz build up at all for him. I'm sure they could have got SOMETHING for him, though. [Reply]

Mondesi is officially the worst hitter baseball right now statistically. He has the worst OPS by a huge margin at .451 compared to the next worst of .532. He also at -0.7 WAR.

Holy hell he got rocked,i didnt think he was going to be this bad. I was looking at the overall standings and was surprised that Texas,Boston and the Angels all had worse records than the Royals.Still will probably be Pittsburgh with the worst record, but who knows, the Royals still have a chance.
