Media Center>Samsung 8000 series LED TV - Too sharp?
TinyEvel 08:49 PM 08-10-2013
Nuthooks!

I bought a 46" Samsung 8000 series LED tv.

News looks great. Football games look amazing. Reality Tv and other TV shows are so damn crisp I can see wrinkles and zits that I do not care to see.

MOVIES.... SUCK!

Cape Fear is on TV right now and it looks like the Waltons episode form 1972. Looks like it was shot on hyper-HD video.

I don't even think there's a way to turn off the 240hertz frame rate.

I guess this is an issue with the LED's but dang!

Glad I have a plasma downstairs to watch movies on. This thing is gonna ROCK on game day though.

I assume that you've calibrated it?

You probably need to adjust the auto motion plus.

Disable the Motion option.

It probably looks like a bad 70's soap opera.

There's a "movie" setting for picture. I'd say it's the least bad. But still crazy. I'm gonna go back over to Best Buy and talk to the dude who sold it to me. My wife watches tons of old movies on TCM and a Bette Davis film from the 40's looks like a super-sharp 3-D movie shot on red cam. It just messes with your brain!

my parents have a TV that is like that, and despite turning off TruMotion, it keeps turning back on. never have figured it out.

I set my Picture Mode to Movie, automotion to clear and led motion off and that works well for movies. The first movie I tried to watch on my TV after I bought it was Avengers. It took a lot of tinkering to get the picture right.

If you wanna get the most out of the picture go over to avsforums and check out the various calibration and tweaks - they have some seriously obsessed people that pour a good amount of time to getting the most out of their tv performance. Pretty amazing and super cool of them to help so many who'd never have a clue where to start with even.

Ive adjusted all the various modes on my tv so they are ideal for different sources and its like night and day if there are annoyances with your tv when viewing certain feeds.
