This video popped up on my YouTube feed. Seemed like a good basis for a thread.
The five films discussed in the video, panned by various Brits to the general disdain of other Brits off camera, are The Shining, Forrest Gump, the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Gone With the Wind and The Blair Witch Project.
I think the first three guys are mostly nuts, wholeheartedly agree regarding GWTW, and argue that Blair Witch was never great in the first place.
So what great movie(s) do you hate? I'll chime my picks in later. [Reply]
Critics and pretentious dicks everywhere love Wings of Desire (1987.) It got a bunch of best picture rankings from newspapers and other groups as well as numerous awards and best director at Cannes. I think it is one of the worst movies I have ever watched and a serious waste of some beautiful cinematography. [Reply]
While there are several "acclaimed" movies that I really despise, the one that will probably surprise people (and no doubt earn lewdog's douchy scorn) is Raging Bull.
This was one of those movies on my Never Seen But Should list, so a couple of years ago I picked it up on blu-ray. Just... hated it. Maybe I wouldn't have had I seen it before Goodfellas and Casino, but as I watched it, I couldn't help but think oh, another Scorsese movie with the usual suspects playing guido lowlifes. Except, unlike the other movies, particularly Goodfellas, nothing about this one appealed to me. I just couldn't make myself care about this particular wife-beating hair trigger temper degenerate. Didn't even finish watching it, and I ended up giving the blu-ray to one of my friends. [Reply]
The old Star Wars, new ones made me hate them all.
Inception, I only saw it once but I remember not liking it and wasn't very interested when I watched it.
The Usual Suspects, meh. Some girl I was dating hyped me up as the best movie ever and we watched it and I was like "meh" and she got pissed that I didn't like it. [Reply]
